About Guinea-Bissau SAR System Organisation

The Maritime Port Institute is responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining Maritime Search and Rescue in Guinea-Bissau. The Minister of Transport and Communication directs the Maritime Search and Rescue (MSR) policy, international agreements, conventions and operational matters pertaining to Maritime SAR.

The Marine Port Institute is the SAR authority for maritime incidents and is responsible for the provision of maritime SAR service within the Guinean Maritime Search and Rescue Region. The Maritime Port Institute coordinates, liaises, trains, equips, staff, maintains, prepares finance, develops procedures and operations plans and conduct exercises for Maritime Search and Rescue.
